Recruitment Activities.

 

The following FCC recommended activities were engaged in during the period covered by this report.

 

1.       Meet & Greet Business Exchange February 10, 2009.

 Description of Scope of Activity including Positions of Station Personnel involved: 

Northern Star Broadcasting participated in the 2009 Meet & Greet Roundtable discussion sponsored by the Dickinson Area Partnership.  It was held on February 10, 2009 at Bay College West Campus from 8:00am till 9:30am.  There were over 15 professional businesses represented to discuss information on the economy what works best for recruiting for positions available at their company.  Northern Star Broadcasting was represented by Mike Caruso and Dennise Crosson and potential job openings, careers in broadcasting and opportunities for part-time board operators was discussed.

2.       Career/Job Fair

 Description of Scope of Activity including Positions of Station Personnel involved: 

Northern Star Broadcasting hosted and co-sponsored a Career/Job Fair on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Bay College West Campus from 1:00pm until 5:00pm.  There were 21 vendors participating answering questions regarding career opportunities.  There were over 150 attendees filling out applications and dropping off their resume for possible future employment.  People who stopped by The Northern Star Broadcasting booth were given the following handouts.  General information on our stations, a list of Michigan educational institutions with broadcasting or related programs, a description of broadcasting jobs and specifically jobs that are available in radio. 

 

Veronica Roberts, General Manager of Northern Star Broadcasting/Iron Mountain , Mike Caruso, Account Manager, Dennise Crosson, Account Manager and Claire Marcell, Account Manager were

available at the Northern Star Broadcasting display to answer questions.

  

3.       Career in Broadcast Announcements

 Description of Scope of Activity including Positions of Station Personnel involved: 

Announcements air on Northern Star Broadcasting Station on the First and Sixteenth of each month.  Announcements inform the General Public of Careers in the Broadcast field and encourage individuals interested in a career in broadcasting to visit the Northern Star Broadcasting website @nsbroadcasting.com and click on employment for a list of current opportunities and internships.

  4.       Station Tours/Training 

         During the year Northern Star Broadcasting has conducted station tours for the Boy Scouts, Girl

         Scouts, area high school students as well as extensive training for male & female high school

         students to become employed as part-time board operators for all three of our stations.

 

        Steve Pounchard, Operations Manager for WIMK, Tom Hill, Operations Manager for WZNL, and

        Neal Peterson, Operations Manager for WMIQ all participated in conducting these tours and pro-

        viding the necessary training for these employees.
